The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s approach to biodiversity conservation is based upon the best available science that can be applied for the protection, conservation and restoration of the habitats relied upon by the region’s native flora and fauna.
WPC’s involvement in science falls into three main categories:
Inventory and assessment of biodiversity includes the mapping, tracking and evaluation of the species and natural communities of the state
Conservation theory and applied science used to guide conservation planning and on-the-ground protection activities related to conservation targets at a variety of scales
Stewardship science used to manage and, if needed, restore the land and water relied upon by native plants, animals and natural communities.
